State of Ngazidja (Grande Comore)

For several centuries, Grande Comore was divided into a number of sultanates, including Bambao, Itsandra, Mitsamihuli, Mbajini, Hambuu, Washili, Hamahame, Mbwankuu, Mbude and Domba. The sultans were also known as mfaume. In 1886, the ruler of Bambao, Sultan Said Ali bin Said Omar declared a "state of Ngazidja", usurping the other sultanates and accepting a French protectorate over the island. In 1893, Sultan Said Ali was sent into exile on Réunion. In 1908, France annexed the island and the sultanates were abolished. In 1975, Grande Comore, Anjouan and Mohéli declared independence as the nation of Comoros.

ഇന്നത്തെ Comoros

ഇന്നത്തെ Comoros (Union of the Comoros). ഈ മാപ്പിലെ  Mayotte Union of the Comoros-ന്‍റെ ഭാഗമല്ല. ഈ ദ്വീപില്‍ Comoros  അവകാശ വാദം ഉന്നയിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഈ ദ്വീപ് ഇപ്പോഴും ഫ്രാന്‍സിന്‍റെ കീഴിലാണ്.
   

കൊമോറസ് ഇന്ത്യൻ മഹാസമുദ്രത്തിലെ ദ്വീപ് രാജ്യങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. ആഫ്രിക്കൻ വൻ‌കരയിൽ മഡഗാസ്കറിനും മൊസാംബിക്കിനും ഇടയിലാണു സ്ഥാനം. മൊസാംബിക് ചാനലിലെ നാലു ചെറുദ്വീപുകളിൽ മൂന്നെണ്ണം ചേരുന്നതാണ് കൊമോറസ്. ഗ്രാൻ‌ഡ് കൊമോർ, മൊഹേലി, അൻ‌ജുവാൻ എന്നിവയാണ് കൊമോറസിനു കീഴിലുള്ള ദ്വീപുകൾ. നാലാമത്തെ ദ്വീപായ മയോട്ടി ഫ്രഞ്ച് അധീനതയിലാണ്. എന്നാൽ ഇവിടെയും കൊമോറസ് അവകാശവാദമുന്നയിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഫ്രാൻ‌സിൽ നിന്നും സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിനായി നടത്തിയ ഹിതപരിശോധനയിൽ മറ്റു മൂന്നു ദ്വീപുകളും അനുകൂല നിലപാടെടുത്തപ്പോൾ മയോട്ടിയിലെ ജനങ്ങൾ ഫ്രാൻ‌സിൽ നിന്നും സ്വതന്ത്രമാകേണ്ട എന്നു വിധിയെഴുതി. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ദരിദ്രരാജ്യങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് കൊമോറസ്.
